The new trenches cut into the mine floor produced the best matrix with lazulite I have ever seen. Ron found a piece that weighs at least 50 pounds that is covered with dark blue crystals.

Sandy did all the picture taking for this report. I was spending a lot of my time getting video for our new you tube show "American Rockhounds" which I will have done in a week or so.

One of our new members with a nice rutile crystal.

A member found this nice hunk of lazulite matrix rock.

Above, interesting pieces of iridescent hematite.

This was a great trip for our club. I saw at least thirty or more excellent rutile specimens and a ton of the best lazulite matrix I have seen from the mine. Varisite that Mark Gaskins found and some fantastic iridescent. Like I said, I got several hours of video with this material on it and I will let you know when I get the video put together.

A big THANK YOU to Junior for getting us into the pit and hanging out with us on Saturday. The club members did a great job of sharing the productive areas with other members so everyone went home with some nice specimens.
